Frequently Asked Questions
About Pop-Vac
What is Pop-Vac?
Pop-Vac is a cannabis packaging manufacturer that produces vacuum-sealed packaging systems for concentrates, flower, and pre-rolls. Every format uses a precision vacuum-seal mechanism designed to minimize oxygen exposure, preserve terpenes, and extend shelf stability — while meeting child-resistant certification requirements.
Who is Pop-Vac packaging designed for?
Pop-Vac serves cannabis operators at every scale: craft brands launching their first SKU, regional producers scaling production, and multi-state operators standardizing packaging across multiple facilities. If packaging performance directly affects your product quality or brand reputation, Pop-Vac is built for you.
Where is Pop-Vac based?
Pop-Vac is headquartered in Buffalo, NY. We serve operators across the United States and select international markets.
How is Pop-Vac different from other cannabis jars?
Most cannabis jars are standard containers adapted from food or pharmaceutical use. Pop-Vac was engineered specifically for cannabis — with a vacuum-seal mechanism that actively reduces internal oxygen exposure after filling, rather than relying solely on threaded compression. The result is meaningfully better terpene retention, odor containment, and shelf stability, particularly for high-value products with longer distribution cycles.
Products & Sizing
What product formats does Pop-Vac offer?
Pop-Vac offers three primary packaging formats:
- Concentrate jars — for live resin, rosin, badder, diamonds, and other cannabis extracts
- Flower containers — for cannabis flower in eighth, quarter, and larger formats
- Pre-roll packaging (J-tubes) — for .5g, .7g, and 1g pre-roll formats, including singles and multi-packs
We also offer Nugidor, a consumer-facing vacuum-sealed flower storage solution for retail environments.
What sizes do Pop-Vac concentrate jars come in?
| Size | Recommended Fill | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| 2mL | ~1g | Single-gram retail SKUs |
| 4mL | 2–3g | Half-eighths, premium 2g formats |
| 9mL | 3–8g | Multi-gram, bulk, commercial formats |
What concentrate types are compatible with Pop-Vac jars?
Pop-Vac concentrate jars are compatible with live resin, live rosin, fresh-press rosin, badder, budder, diamonds and sauce, distillate, dry sift, cold cure, and other cannabis extract formats.
What pre-roll sizes fit in Pop-Vac J-tubes?
Pop-Vac pre-roll containers are compatible with .5g, .7g, and 1g formats across standard lengths and diameters. Request samples to confirm fit with your specific pre-roll specifications before committing to production volume.
Can the same system be used across concentrate, flower, and pre-roll SKUs?
Yes. The Pop-Vac vacuum-seal platform is unified across all three product categories. This allows brands to standardize packaging under one system, simplify procurement, and maintain consistent closure performance across their entire product line.
How It Works
How does Pop-Vac's vacuum seal mechanism work?
When the lid engages the Pop-Vac container, a precision-engineered seal mechanism creates a controlled interior environment by reducing the headspace oxygen level. This limits the ongoing air exchange that occurs in standard screw-top containers — slowing terpene oxidation, reducing aroma loss, and extending shelf stability from fill to first open.
Why does oxygen matter for cannabis packaging?
Oxygen accelerates terpene degradation through oxidation and volatilization. Terpenes are volatile organic compounds — they naturally evaporate and degrade when exposed to oxygen. For high-value products like live resin or terpene-forward flower, packaging that allows ongoing oxygen exposure means measurable quality loss over weeks and months of storage and distribution.
How much better is vacuum sealing compared to a standard screw-top jar?
The difference is most noticeable with high-terpene products over longer distribution cycles — typically 30 to 90+ days from fill to consumer. In side-by-side comparisons, products in Pop-Vac containers consistently show better aroma retention and moisture balance at the point of consumer use. We encourage brands to request samples and run their own comparison with their own product.
Does the vacuum seal affect the consumer experience?
Yes, intentionally. The slight resistance of the seal releasing at first open — followed by the preserved aroma of a product protected since filling — is a tactile brand signal. It communicates that the product was protected and that the brand invested in its quality. Many of our brand partners cite the first-open experience as a meaningful consumer differentiator.
Child-Resistant Compliance
Is Pop-Vac packaging child-resistant certified?
Yes. All Pop-Vac packaging formats are tested and certified in accordance with applicable child-resistant standards, including 16 CFR § 1700.20 (the Poison Prevention Packaging Act testing protocol) where applicable. Testing is conducted by qualified third-party laboratories.
Where can I download certification documents?
Certification documents are available by SKU on our CR Certifications page. Each entry includes the certification reference number, testing laboratory, and certification date.
Does the certification cover re-closability?
Pop-Vac packaging is designed for re-closable child-resistant performance. Contact our compliance team at info@pop-vac.com to confirm re-closability certification status for specific SKUs and your state's requirements.
Does Pop-Vac packaging meet my state's cannabis packaging requirements?
Child-resistant requirements vary by state. We recommend working with your compliance team to map our certification documentation against your specific state regulations. Our compliance team can assist with state-specific documentation requests — contact info@pop-vac.com.
Can I use Pop-Vac CR certification documents for regulatory filings?
Yes. Certification documents, test reports, and supplier declarations of conformity are available to support state regulatory submissions, internal compliance audits, and distributor qualification processes.
Testing & Documentation
What testing is Pop-Vac packaging subject to?
Pop-Vac packaging undergoes structured testing covering seal integrity, closure engagement consistency, child-resistant performance, material composition, and environmental durability. Testing is conducted by qualified third-party laboratories.
What is FDA conformity and does Pop-Vac have it?
Pop-Vac packaging is not FDA-approved. However, certain packaging materials are manufactured in alignment with applicable sections of 21 CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) related to food-contact material standards. This material conformity documentation is available upon request and supports vendor qualification processes for operators who require it.
What documentation is available for procurement teams?
Procurement and compliance teams can request the following:
- Child-resistant certification documents by SKU
- Third-party test reports and summaries
- Material conformity documentation (21 CFR, where applicable)
- Product spec sheets
- Supplier declarations of conformity
- Dieline templates
Contact info@pop-vac.com or visit our Specs & Certs page to access available documents.
How do I know my Pop-Vac packaging is authentic?
Only authentic Pop-Vac packaging purchased through authorized distributors or directly from our team carries valid CR certification and documented testing. If you're unsure about a supplier's authorization status, contact info@pop-vac.com and we'll confirm it directly.
Automation
Is Pop-Vac packaging compatible with automated filling systems?
Yes. Pop-Vac containers are engineered for automation compatibility, with consistent dimensional tolerances and closure mechanisms designed for mechanical engagement.
What is MachineCanna?
MachineCanna is a purpose-built automated filling and sealing system designed specifically for Pop-Vac packaging formats. Unlike generic filling equipment adapted for cannabis, MachineCanna is engineered to consistently engage the Pop-Vac vacuum-seal mechanism at production speed — ensuring reliable seal performance at scale.
What volume level makes automation worthwhile?
This varies by operation, but consistent overtime on packaging, declining batch consistency, SKU complexity across multiple formats, and linear labor scaling are the primary signals that automation has become necessary. Our team can help assess whether your current volume and operational profile justify automation. Schedule a consultation.
How does MachineCanna integration work?
Implementation follows four stages: production assessment, format confirmation, testing and validation in your specific environment, and ongoing support. We do not recommend going fully live with automation before in-facility validation is complete.
